Online faculty positions are easier to search for and find than ever before in history. That a pretty bold statement, and it should not be surprising that there might be just a few skeptics who think that online faculty position are hard to find and even harder to apply for these days. For those college teachers wishing they had, say, an extra grand in their pockets each month, or those college instructors who are completely out of work because of state budget cuts and need several grand a month just to stay afloat in the these perilous times of economic uncertainty, this is the golden period for landing multiple online faculty positions. The colleges and universities that now find themselves in the sorry position of not being able to accommodate the sheer number of recent students wanting a chair in a physical classroom is sincerely sad and almost tragic. Understandably, these are state funded schools, and they apparently felt they had plenty of time to develop their online degree programs because, well, the entrenched faculty members, who are almost to a person certain they have attained the high moral and social ground, neglected to inform the administration that college students who can’t find that physical chair to sit in will be more than happy to earn an accredited degree online. Further, this same intellectually-petrified faculty never imagined that an online degree course could be populated with enough students to actually require a steady stream of qualified applicants to full the many online faculty positions created by the growing student body.

Online Faculty Positions In Changing Times

It is not a stretch to say that the entire higher education hiring system has changed during the last ten years, and it has changed a lot. Gone are the days when an academic with a terminal degree in hand could expect a full time job with benefits at a state sponsored college or university. Today, the faculty of most colleges and universities are heavily populated by part time academics that enjoy no benefits at all. Thus, there is a big push to hire more and more academics in online adjunct faculty positions since those positions do not come with the burden of benefits. Further, as the number of full time faculty members has fallen, the number of adjunct has risen to handle the increasing number of new and returning college students. Happily, there is a bright side to this turn of events, and anyone with a graduate degree and college classroom experience and take advantage of it by simply starting a disciplined search for online faculty positions. The sheer number of online adjunct faculty positions at online degree programs that offer, for example, online teaching degrees, an online education degree, a psychology degree online or an aa degree online is climbing and will continue to climb because the current economy is pushing college students back into the classroom. The point is that the alert academic will understand, sooner or later, that the real money to be made teaching college students is to be found in discovering and obtaining multiple online faculty positions.
